Verse of the week for December 24 - December 30
“... but when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons."
- Galatians 4:4-5
- Galatians 4:4-5
This week we celebrated the birth of our redeemer. What a gift! What a display of God’s love for us! Many people today make statements that the Old Testament scripture has no bearing on us today. Many say that the law is of no value to us in today’s world. However, the Old Testament scriptures and the law itself has much to say to us. The Old Testament shows us the unfolding of God’s plan in dealing with man. It is an impossibility for man, the sinner that he is, to have a right relationship with a Holy God, without help. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
We ALL have sinned! No one is left out. Romans 3:20 says, “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in His sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” We can “ do the best we can.” We can turn over a “new leaf.” We can try all sorts of things, but none, I repeat none of them will work! People ask why then do we have the law recorded in the scriptures? The last part of Romans 3:20 says, “for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” In Galatians 3:24 says, “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.” So in saying all of this we come to the realization that man cannot and could not save himself. So God sent forth His Son to redeem us from the guilt and penalty of sin! Jesus was born for the purpose of paying the price for our sin. He was born, lived a perfect sinless life, died on the cross at Calvary, was buried, and on the third day rose again. He ascended back to heaven and is seated on the right hand of God interceding on our behalf. May I say, O what a Saviour!!! God Bless each of you this Christmas!
