Verse Of the Week for May 19 - May 25
“But that ye may know that the Son of Man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (He said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thy house.”
- Luke 5:24
- Luke 5:24
Just stop for a moment and consider this verse. These are words that Jesus spoke to respond to the thoughts that the scribes and Pharisees had concerning what he had told the man sick of the palsy. “Man thy sins are forgiven thee.” The scribes and Pharisees had questioned, “Who can forgive sins, but God alone?” Yes only God can forgive sins. Jesus is and was God. He always has been and always will be God. Just think about having our sins forgiven!
1 John 1:7 says, “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
Psalm 32:1 says, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.”
Jesus never performed a miracle in order for an individual just to receive physical healing. He was concerned about the souls of individuals. When He saw the Faith of these men He spoke the most precious words, “Man thy sins be forgiven thee.” What a joy to know that our sins are forgiven. The slate is wiped clean. The Bible says that we are justified by faith. Romans 5:1. To be justified is to be just-as if we had never sinned! Dear Lord Jesus, we thank you today that we can come before you with the assurance that, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9. May the Lord Bless each of you today knowing that Jesus forgives sin!
