Verse Of the Week for August 18 - August 24
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins ,and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
- 1 John 1:9
- 1 John 1:9
This verse out of 1 John is a tremendous verse of scripture. We sin. We sin every day. The Bible states that we all have sinned. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” The scriptures clearly state that Christ came into this world to die for our sin. Sin is serious! We see how serious sin is when we become aware of the tremendous price that was paid to forgive our sin. God gave himself, Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son to pay our sin debt. It was a price that we could not pay! However, God in His great love paid the price for our sins through the sacrifice of His Son on Calvary’s Cross.
Once we have been born again, saved by God’s grace, we still sin. Even though we are saved and possess eternal life, we still sin. We still have a sinful nature. We may think, do, or say things that are wrong. When we do, we have sinned. It doesn’t mean that we are not saved again, but it does mean that we have disappointed God. I am so thankful for 1 John 1:9. When we do sin (and we will) we need to confess that sin to God and the Bible states, when we do, that God is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The last part of 1 John 1:7 states, “…and the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ, cleanseth us from all sin.” Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your Son Jesus Christ. Thank you for the sacrifice of your Son for our sins. Thank you for loving us that much. We thank you that when we come to you confessing our sins that you are faithful and just, to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Bless your Holy Name. Amen!
