Verse Of the Week for August 4 - August 10

“Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent.”

- John 6:29

This statement was from Jesus in response to the question from the people who said, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” The people had just been witnesses to the feeding of the 5000 and knew that something else spectacular had occurred. Jesus was standing in their presence, did not get on the boat with the disciples, and there was no other boats there. Just how did He get over to this side? Now they wanted to know what they needed to do, to do the work of God. Jesus simply told them that the work of God was to believe on Him (Jesus) that He (The Father) had sent! God loved this world so much that He gave, sent Jesus, into the world that whosoever believes in Him wouldn’t perish but have everlasting life. Jesus said that He came to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10. How thankful we should be for Gods simple plan of salvation. Phillip told the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8 as he asked, “here is water, what hinders me from being baptized?” If thou believest with all thine heart thou mayest. The eunuch responded, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” Phillip then carried him down into the water and baptized him. What a blessing to believe on Him! The work of God is to believe on Him that He has sent! It all starts with being born again, saved by His grace! Dear Lord, we thank you for Jesus our Savior. Thank you for loving us and giving your Son as our sacrifice for our sin. Help us to point others to Him that they too can be saved. Amen!
