Verse Of the Week for September 15 - September 21
“Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.”
- Psalm 25:4-5
- Psalm 25:4-5
These two verses have so much to say unto us as believers. The Psalmist ask for very specific things. He asks that the Lord would, “Shew me thy ways,…” We need to know the ways of the Lord. Isaiah 55:8 declares, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways your ways saith the Lord.” God’s ways are different from man’s ways. You see God has all knowledge about everything! He knows what is best for each of His children, as well as desires the very best for each of us. The Psalmist then asks that the Lord to teach him
His paths. His desire is to travel upon the Lords paths. To know the Lords ways is to know what the Lord would do and how to do it. To ask to be taught the Lords paths is allowing oneself to be directed and guided by the Lord. Then he asks to be lead in the Lords truth, to be taught. John 17:17 reads, “ Sanctify them through thy truth, thy word is truth.” To be led and taught the truth, is to be led and taught the precious Word of God. That is the Psalmists desire and must be our desire as well! Then he says “for thou art the God of my salvation. Salvation comes from the Lord. It’s not good deeds, good works, or anything we can accomplish on our own. Salvation is of the Lord. He, God, is the originator of our salvation. We couldn’t save ourselves, we couldn’t do enough to merit salvation. However God in His love provides salvation through His Son Jesus Christ. John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Then the Psalmist states, “on thee do I wait all the day.” Isaiah 40:31 says, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…” To wait upon the Lord is to be patient, allowing the Lord to show us His ways, to teach us His paths, to lead us and teach us in His word, because He is the God of our salvation. Our heavenly Father, please help us, show us, lead us, teach us, as we patiently wait upon you. Amen.
