Verse Of the Week for October 6 - October 12
"And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."
- Genesis 12:2-3
- Genesis 12:2-3
The Lord spoke these words to Abram, (later to be called Abraham) The Lord called him to leave his country, his kindred, and his father’s house and go to a land that the Lord Himself would show him. Abram was obedient to the Lord. The descendants of Abram, changed to Abraham, would eventually arrive at the land the Lord promised them. Abraham had a promised son named Isaac. Unto Isaac was born Jacob. Jacob’s name was changed to Israel. Israel was and is God’s chosen people. The Lord made a covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel) The Lord promised to never leave nor forsake His chosen people. Israel would at times turn their backs on God. God in His love would chasten Israel. There were times that the nation of Israel would be allowed to be taken captive. They would be placed in slavery and would serve others until the Lord caused them to be released. They suffered for 70 years of captivity in Babylon. At the end of that 70 years they were allowed to return to their homeland. In these verses the Lord promised to Abraham that He would make of him a great nation, He would bless Him, and through him all the nations of the earth would be blessed. Jesus would come through the line of descendants of Abraham. (His earthly line, He is the Son of God, His heavenly line) The Lord states that He would Bless those who Bless Israel ( the promised line of Abraham) and curse them that curseth Israel. Israel is God’s chosen people. They always will be God’s chosen people. It is through the nation of Israel that the Redeemer, the Savior, came, gave His life, shed His blood that we might be saved. Pray for Israel, for God’s protection against all those that persecute that great nation. There is special blessings for those who support the nation of Israel. Pray for America. Pray that America will turn back to God. Pray that America will always back Israel. Pray for the leaders of the children of Israel. Pray for the leaders in America. Pray one for another in our country. Our nation is so divided right now that it truly needs a touch of God, a revival to sweep across this land for the glory of God. Pray for our churches. Pray that we as Christian’s will share the Gospel with our neighbors and anyone else that we meet. The message Jesus gave to Nicodemas in John 3 is still true today, “Ye must be born again.”
