Verse Of the Week for July 21 - July 27

“Give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.”

- Psalms 29:2
We live in a society that honors individuals in different ways. One may be a business man that has been successful in their endeavors. They may have accumulated great wealth. Many times they are placed upon a pedestal and honored and praised. Sometimes it may be an athlete that has risen to stardom and fame through their ability to maybe run, throw, or hit a ball. As a result that individual may be honored in some particular way. Let’s stop for a moment and see who is really worthy of honor and glory. Don’t get me wrong, I love sports and admire the accomplishments of athletes in their field. This verse tells us to give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name! He is certainly, when we really look at things, worthy of all the honor and glory! He created us. We are all fearfully and wonderfully made. We are made in His likeness and His image. God loves us in spite of all the things we have done that doesn’t honor Him. We should give Him the glory due unto His name. One day we are all going to stand before Him. If we are a child of God we will stand before Him as our Lord and Savior. If we are not saved we will stand before Him as our judge. He alone is worthy of all honor, glory, and praise. The Apostle Paul in Philippians chapter 3 talks about that he could have confidence in the flesh and lists his credentials. Phil. 3:4-6. He goes on to say in verse 7,
“But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.” It was and still should be all about Christ.
He should and must receive the glory due to His name. Dear Lord, help us to have our hearts and minds focused upon you. Help us in our daily lives give glory unto your name. For you have a name that is above every name! Phil. 2:9.
